That of the goldsmith is an age-old and challenging art that requires skill and precision but above all, love. Based on this premise, Gaetano Broggi, the last heir in a family of artisans who were experts in “gilding and silvering metals”, opened his first workshop in Via dei Mercanti d’Oro in Milan, in 1818.

The fame of his cutlery, flatware and sacred objects in silver reached the royal court of Turin, so much so that in 1841 the Duke of Savoy commissioned the Milanese artisan to gild the ornaments for his wedding.

While gilding and silvering were still done manually, Gaetano’s sons, Carlo and Serafino, decided to travel abroad to study the latest innovations in the sector. It was there that they experimented with the galvanic process, which involved considerable savings in terms of time and resources, thus increasing production and refining the qualitative aspects, to the delight of their traditional noble clientele and the new bourgeoisie.

It was 1866 and the company Gaetano Broggi e Figli inaugurated its new headquarters in S. Maria Fulcorina, where metalworking was combined with the production of flatware and cutlery. It was here that the silver alloy that soon made Broggi’s name famous throughout the world was created: a special amalgam capable of combining shine, extraordinary strength and significantly lower costs.

The Broggi company continued to grow until it moved to Piazza San Marco where, for the first time in Italy, Broggi began making cutlery and turning oval objects.

On June 14, 1872, Victor Emmanuel II granted the right to insert the royal crest on the sign of the headquarters as a supplier of the Royal Household. Just a few years later, a new innovation: Broggi discovered the dynamo for producing electricity and brought it to Italy to optimise the galvanic process. Soon the challenge of large supplies began for the family, starting with the hotel sector.

In 1875 the Broggi family were asked to create an original model of cutlery for the new Hotel Confortable opened in Milan by Marquis Flori. This was followed by orders for several other establishments.

The Officine Gullo kitchens are created in balance between tradition and modernity. Every kitchen is equipped with avant-garde technology, inserted inside structures that have inherited the ancient artisanal tradition of metalworking. ART AND ARTISANAL CRAFTMANSHIP
To understand the true value of an Officine Gullo kitchen, a brief trip to the laboratories where the ideas come to life is a necessary experience, other than being an extremely interesting voyage. Everything begins with the project, examined in detail with the client until all of the requirements have been satisfied. When the blueprints of the projects reach the workshop, work begins on the metal panels (thickness can reach 7mm). The stainless steel takes the shape of the drawers, cabinets and tops on which professional elements and appliances are mounted. In parallel the details are brought to life: work on the knobs, corner trims, hinges and mechanisms is manually carried out piece by piece by working solid brass billets on the lathe and milling the panels of the finest metals. When every piece is ready, the kitchen is assembled in its raw state to evaluate that all is perfect. This is a fundamental phase as this allows the technicians to check the precision of the pairing of the cabinets and the harmony of the project. The kitchen is then taken apart for the last phase, the finishing and the painting of the metals, where its final configuration takes shape. A careful and meticulous ork, carried out by master artisans, allows the kitchen in all its detail to become unique and inimitable.

It is Mayday 1945

We are at Marostica, Italy has just come out of the war and precisely on Mayday Vimar was founded. The scenario is that of a Country that has come out of a long war and has a great desire to rebuild.
The hat factory

In the early years of business the headquarters were an old property, previously a hat factory.  The idea, that was to prove successful, was to specialize in products for the residential use of electricity, based on elements obtained by moulding thermosetting resin.
Lamp holders and plugs

The lamp holder was the first, followed by plugs, wall sockets and iron plugs. Elementary products whose metal parts were partly purchased and partly obtained from sheets cut into strips with a simple manual rocker.
Pear switches

Before the fifties a product was launched that was to be extremely successful:  the pear switch, that for many years caused Vimar to be known goodheartedly as the "pear" factory.
